She Said Yes!
January 27, 1996 was to be their first anniversary. Since their anniversary and Valentine's Day were so close together, Jen and Eric made a deal. Jen was to plan their anniversary while Eric was to plan Valentine's Day. Jen opted for dinner and dessert at her dorm. She had planned it all out and had bought Eric a VCR for their anniversary. Eric kept insisting "Wow, you went all out. I only planned a little for Valentine's. Don't expect anything much." Jen, again being gullible, took him at his word.
On February 14, 1996, Eric picked up Jen from her on-campus job. She had given him a key to her dorm room so that he could plan whatever festivities he wanted. He gave her the movie Maverick on the way to her room. She assumed he had bought her a TV/VCR for Valentine's. Little did she know, this was not the case. Upon entering her dorm room, Jen spotted the Franklin Mint Monopoly set on her bed, alongside a bowl of shrimp. Wanting to be careful, Jen looked at the elegant Monopoly board. She first looked in the real estate portfolio and spied two tickets to that evening's performance of Beauty and the Beast. She gasped, since he had consistently stated that he was unable to get tickets. She continued to look at the set and opened up the drawer containing the playing pieces. Immediately, she spotted the glimmer of the diamond ring. Upon seeing her realization, Eric picked up the ring and asked the timeless question "Jen, will you marry me?"
And, through a cloud of tears, she said "Yes."
